December through March is the season. Outside that window, the consistent NE flow weakens and the lake can sit flat for days. Build your trip around the peak months. There are no listed facilities at the launch area. Come fully self-sufficient: water, food, a repair kit, and a clear safety plan. Do not count on finding anything at the water's edge. Skill level: the combination of mountain-funnelled wind, open freshwater, and no on-site support makes Lake Arenal better suited to confident intermediates and above. You want to be at ease self-rescuing in 25 knots or more before you show up. The lake is large, and an unplanned downwind drift here has real consequences — there is no surf break to slow you and no guaranteed close shore in every direction.
