Mazotos sits on Cyprus's south coast roughly 22 km southwest of Larnaca, along a stretch of open shoreline that faces almost directly south. That orientation is the whole story: the beach collects W/SW afternoon thermal wind reliably through the warmer months, and it does so with a consistency that puts it among the most dependable kite destinations in the Mediterranean. Getting there from Larnaca is straightforward — head southwest along the coastal road and you'll drop into the small village before reaching the beach. The spot operates as a designated kite zone, so the setup area is understood by locals and other beach users, and there's a recognisable structure to proceedings on busier days. The beach itself is sandy, which makes for a comfortable launch and landing, but don't let that lull you into leaving your booties at home. Rocky reef pockets sit beneath the surface in parts, so walking the shallows barefoot is a bad idea. It's not a dramatic hazard — just something to be aware of from the moment you wade in. Wind here arrives predominantly from the west and southwest, driven by thermal activity as the island heats up through the day. The thermal cycle is what makes Mazotos work: on a typical day during the season, the wind fills in after late morning and builds through the afternoon, typically running in the 17–23 knot range. The S-facing coastline means the wind arrives from your side and slightly onshore depending on exactly where it sits within the W/SW arc — the usable kite window runs from 90° through 270°. For most riders that translates to a workable cross-to-slightly-onshore angle, which is reassuring if you need to come in. The season runs April through October, and the warm Mediterranean climate means October still delivers usable sessions. If you're planning around the most reliable window, the core summer months are your best bet, but shoulder season either side is worth considering. Multiple kite schools operate here, which makes Mazotos a reasonable choice for lessons or for riders who want professional presence nearby. It also means some structure to the zone — instructors running students on trainer kites tend to occupy the inner areas, so more experienced riders typically work further out. The water is open Mediterranean: generally clear, relatively flat inshore, with some chop building further out as the wind strengthens. There's no meaningful swell to contend with, which suits anyone working on freestyle or simply looking to put in clean freeride hours. For dedicated waveriders this probably isn't the destination, but for intermediates and freeride regulars it's consistently solid. Mazotos isn't flashy. It's consistent, well-organised, and honest — which, for a kite spot, is about as good a combination as you'll find.
