About Softades Beach (Kiti)

Softades Beach sits on the southern coast of Cyprus in the Kiti village area, about 3 km from the better-known Mazotos kite zone in Larnaca district. It's a licensed kite-only beach on an S-facing stretch of open coastline — sandy underfoot with no rocks — and it quietly earns its place as a solid alternative to the busier spots nearby. The drive out from Larnaca takes you through flat, agricultural land before the coast opens up. The kite-only designation keeps non-kite beach traffic to a minimum, which makes rigging and launching noticeably less chaotic than shared-use beaches. Arrive with everything you need for the session — there are no listed facilities on-site, so treat it as a self-sufficient stop and sort water and snacks before you head out. The Mazotos area a few kilometres away has more in the way of services if you need to top up. The usable kite arc covers 90°–270°, so easterlies through southwesterlies are all workable depending on the day. The core season runs April through October, with W/SW winds typically delivering 14–22 knots — reliable enough for a solid session without being overpowering on most days. Outside that window Cyprus's mild climate means year-round riding is possible, though conditions outside the core season are more variable and worth checking carefully. Water character on this stretch of open south-facing coast is shaped largely by whatever the wind is doing. A W/SW wind on an S-facing beach gives you a cross-to-slightly-offshore orientation — intermediates and above will typically be comfortable here, but beginners should assess carefully and ideally get on the water with one of the IKO-accredited schools that operate at this spot. Those schools are your fastest route to a local read on current conditions and any site-specific behaviour worth knowing. The clearest advantage Softades has over nearby spots is crowd levels. On the weekends when Mazotos gets busy, Softades tends to stay quieter — fewer kites in the air means more space to ride and a less pressured launch zone. If you're planning around peak season and want room to breathe, building Softades into your rotation makes sense. For gear, the 14–22 kn W/SW range typical of the core season suggests a mid-size kite covers most days. Cyprus conditions can shift, so if you have travel options, bringing a second size is sensible — something bigger for the lighter shoulder-month days. The sandy, rock-free beach floor makes for clean launches and landings in either direction.
