La Boca sits at the mouth of the Río Yasica, where the river empties into the Caribbean roughly 10 km east of Cabarete. It's the natural finish line for one of the most popular downwinders in the Dominican Republic — a 10 km coastal run from Cabarete that deposits you at this sheltered lagoon mouth. The spot is a freshwater-mix lagoon, protected from ocean chop by the surrounding riverbanks and vegetation, and it delivers some of the flattest water you'll find in the DR. That makes it unusually versatile: beginners can focus on technique without fighting swell, and freestyle riders get a reliable flat-water canvas for working their tricks. The NE trade winds that power the Cabarete corridor funnel through here at a typical 15–25 knots during the season, giving you consistent, readable conditions rather than the gusty surprises you sometimes find on more exposed stretches of coastline. The wind arc runs 0°–180°, so anything from due north through due south falls inside the usable kite window. In practice, the NE trades sit comfortably within that arc for most of the season. Getting to La Boca from Cabarete means heading east along the coastal road. Most people arrive either as the endpoint of a downwinder — sorting a car shuttle or jumping on a mototaxi back — or driving directly to the lagoon to launch. The lagoon mouth is generally straightforward to access, though river flow and lagoon levels can vary seasonally, so check local conditions before you rig. The downwinder itself is the standout experience here. You ride the trade wind with the coast to your left, covering roughly 10 km of predominantly flat to mildly textured water before landing at the lagoon. It's a solid intermediate-level run: you should be comfortable body-dragging and water-starting in open water before attempting it unsupported. If the wind backs off mid-run, you need to be able to sort yourself out. La Boca's protected lagoon also works well if you're still learning and want calmer conditions than Cabarete's main beach.
