El Gouna's Makani Beach sits on the northern edge of El Gouna, Egypt's planned resort town on the Red Sea coast. The setting is immediately distinctive: a shallow, turquoise lagoon stretching 2–3 kilometres along the shoreline, with water that runs knee to waist deep across most of its width — the kind of flat, calm surface that makes learning forgiving and foiling genuinely fast. The wind here is a north to northwest cross-onshore flow, consistently delivering 15–25 knots across roughly 300 windy days a year. That frequency puts El Gouna among the more reliably windy destinations you can plan a trip around. It is forgiving for falls and excellent for progression, but it also means you will walk sections at low water, and a hard wipeout in knee-deep conditions requires technique to manage safely. Keep your board between you and the seabed on the way down.
