Makadi Bay sits about 30 km south of Hurghada along Egypt's Red Sea coast — a semi-enclosed resort bay where a reef-backed lagoon keeps the water comparatively flat and sheltered. The surrounding resort strip is home to kite schools that operate directly from the beach, so gear rental and instruction are close at hand from the moment you arrive. Wind runs from the north to northwest, cross-onshore, typically in the 15–20 knot range during the main season. With a usable kite window spanning 330° through to 150°, there is a wide arc to work with. The cross-onshore direction is forgiving — wind pushes you toward shore if things go sideways rather than offshore. The reef protection behind the lagoon takes the edge off chop and keeps the water comparatively manageable, which is a large part of why this spot suits all skill levels. April through October is the reliable window for kiting here. Wind tends to build through the late morning and sustains into the afternoon. Outside that period, conditions become less consistent — build your trip around the season if kiting is the priority. The beach itself is resort-facing and reasonably wide, giving you space to rig and launch without crowding. That said, during peak season you will share the water with other kite riders and resort guests, so rig efficiently and communicate clearly before launching. The reef line that shelters the lagoon is worth knowing — stay aware of its position, particularly if you push toward the edges of the kite window or find yourself in a squirrely patch. Beginners will feel at home here: the flat-ish water, cross-onshore direction, and on-site instruction make it one of the more approachable Red Sea setups. Intermediate and advanced riders can move out of the protected lagoon into open water for a more dynamic session. For food and drinks the resort strip has you covered. Cairo, Casa Mia, and Del Mare are sit-down restaurant options. For a cold drink between sessions, Beach Bar, Coco Loco, Pool Bar & Restaurant, and the Labranda Club Pool Bar are all within easy reach. The Lobby Bar and Mahara Club VIP Lounge fill out the options if you want to unwind after the water. Getting here from Hurghada is a straightforward drive south along the coast — around 30 minutes. Most kite visitors stay at one of the resorts on the bay, which puts the beach launch and the kite schools within walking distance from wherever you are sleeping.
