Sahl Hasheesh is a purpose-built resort bay on Egypt's Red Sea coast, roughly 18 km south of Hurghada airport. It sits in well-sheltered water compared to the exposed stretches to the north, with full resort infrastructure close at hand — which means both more contained conditions for a session and somewhere decent to eat and drink afterwards. Getting here from Hurghada is a short drive south along the coast road. The beach has sandy sections where you can rig and launch, though it's worth walking the shoreline first to understand the layout. There's a coral fringe at the edges of the sandy seabed, and discovering it mid-water-start with bare feet is not the discovery you want. Water shoes are non-negotiable at Sahl Hasheesh — pack them as standard kit, not as an afterthought. Wind-wise, the bay runs on a synoptic northwesterly that picks up thermal enhancement through the warmer months. From May to October, that combination typically delivers 15–25 knots with a side-onshore angle — consistent, workable, and forgiving enough to recover if something goes wrong. The thermal element means conditions can build as the day heats up, so if the morning looks marginal, patience often pays. The bay's shelter also filters out some of the rawer gusts you'd meet on more exposed sections of the coast. The seabed is predominantly shallow and sandy, which is forgiving when you take a fall.
