About Ras Sudr — Kite Buzz

Ras Sudr Kite Buzz sits on the western Sinai coast along the Gulf of Suez, at the northern end of the small coastal town of Ras Sudr. It is a camp-format spot — the kind of place you drive to, settle in for a few days, and get comfortable with a consistent stretch of flat water. For most riders the route from Cairo crosses the Suez Canal and follows the coast road south until the camp appears directly on the beach. The defining feature is the flat. A two-kilometre waist-deep tidal plain stretches offshore and gives you a wide, shallow expanse to work with. At low tide the launch is side-onshore from the right — a comfortable angle that sets you up well and makes self-rescue in the shallows straightforward. As the tide comes in the angle softens toward more onshore and the surface picks up a short kicker chop. It is not a dramatic shift, but it changes the character of the session and rewards riding with more drive and intent. The prevailing wind is a northwest thermal sitting at around 315 degrees, cross-onshore from the right as you face the water. It falls well inside the 180°–359° usable window. That cross-onshore angle rewards clean upwind riding and keeps a reliable return path to the beach always in reach — reassuring when a thermal builds faster than you expected. Wind character through the day can vary, so it pays to watch how conditions develop rather than rigging for the morning and ignoring the afternoon. The season runs from March through November. Conditions tend to be most consistent through the middle of the window; the shoulder months on either side are often quieter on the water and can still deliver good riding. Whatever time of year you arrive, come prepared for strong sun and high temperatures — the Gulf of Suez coast does not pull its punches. The spot genuinely suits all skill levels. The waist-deep flat and forgiving cross-onshore wind make early-stage riding less daunting, while the tide-driven chop and the space to run downwind keep intermediates and advanced riders engaged. Two kilometres of flat is plenty of room for everyone to spread out. No facilities are listed for this camp. Arrange water, food, and sun protection before leaving town, and contact the camp directly to confirm what rental gear or instruction is available on arrival. The launch is straight off the beach.
