The headliner is the Tramontane — a north-westerly that arrives side-offshore and can push anywhere from 20 to 50 knots. On a proper Tramontane day this is an intermediate-to-expert beach without question. The power is real, the direction sets you running parallel to the coastline, and the conditions are built for stacked-board sessions. What that same wind demands is respect: side-offshore means if your kite comes down, you drift away from shore. Identify your downwind exit before you launch and have a solid self-rescue ready. For lighter days, the south-east Marin provides an onshore sea breeze running 10 to 18 knots. This is the beginner window: onshore direction, manageable power, and the kind of forgiving setup that lets schools operate close to the waterline without drama. South thermals add a third lighter-wind mode that local instructors lean on for early-level progression. The usable kite window runs from 90° through 270°, covering both the Marin and the broader Tramontane arc. The spot is rideable year-round, with November typically the strongest month for Tramontane frequency. Locally, 300 wind days per year is the figure that gets cited — treat it as a directional claim rather than a hard number, but the wind record on this stretch of Languedoc coast is genuinely consistent. Approach from Gruissan village to reach the coastal strip. Parking fills early when the forecast looks good and the regional kite community arrives en masse — getting there before the morning thermals kick in saves the walk.
