Two regional winds define the riding here, and they suit very different riders. The Tramontane is the headline act: a northwest wind that typically blows hard, running at 30 to 50 knots. With the beach facing southeast, the Tramontane arrives side-offshore, and that combination — high wind speed, offshore angle — makes any Tramontane session strictly advanced territory. You need solid self-rescue skills, gear you know well, and a genuinely honest assessment of your limits before you launch in those conditions. This is the wind that draws serious riders and the people who train when everyone else is watching from the shore. The Marin offers a completely different experience. A southeast wind, it blows onshore and lays flat water across the bay — smooth, accessible, and manageable for intermediates and riders still developing their range. When the Marin is on, Saint-Pierre-la-Mer opens up to a much wider crowd, and the flat water makes it one of the better options on this stretch of coast for logging clean, progressive sessions.
