La Capte sits on a narrow sand strip that divides two lagoons just north of the Giens peninsula, near Hyères in Provence. The geography here is unusual — a thin coastal shelf with enclosed water on either side — and that's precisely what makes it attractive: the lagoon geometry flattens the water, keeps the fetch short, and keeps conditions predictable. The spot is reached via Route du Sel, the road that runs along the narrow isthmus. Getting from the road to the beach is straightforward, and the beach itself is narrow sand — functional rather than expansive — so you'll share the launch area with other kiters, windsurfers, and beachgoers in season. Work through your setup methodically rather than spreading out. The wind arc runs from around NNW through to SSE, with northeast and northwest quadrant winds funneling into the sheltered channel and arriving onshore across flat, shallow water. When those winds are on, conditions are what you'd hope for: consistent, manageable, and readable. The shallow depth and enclosed geometry damp down any significant chop, leaving a surface that's well-suited to learning and progression. La Capte is legitimately a beginner-to-intermediate spot, not just in name. Shallow water means body dragging and water starts are low-consequence, and there's enough space in the channel to ride upwind and figure things out without quickly running into trouble. Intermediate riders working on transitions, upwind technique, or controlled jumps will find the conditions predictable enough to drill on. For experienced riders chasing performance, the flatwater can feel limiting, but it's a solid venue to clean up technique or warm up before heading elsewhere. The spot has strong local infrastructure. Four kite schools operate in the area — KGG école de kitesurf à Hyères, KifKite, KITE CENTER 83, and Kitesurfing School Kitextrem — so lessons and rental are typically accessible whether you're new to the sport or just new to the spot. For accommodation, Hôtel Almanarre Plage, Hôtel Le Calypso, and Hôtel Restaurant Lido Beach are all close by. Post-session, Fratelli d'Italia and Gaetano Plage cover food, and Funboard Center is there for a drink. La Capte sits adjacent to Almanarre, and local riders often treat both as part of the same stretch, shifting between them depending on wind angle and crowd. If one end is busy, the other usually has room. The one thing to stay sharp about is space. The sand strip is narrow, and in peak summer it fills up. Launch with clear downwind space and keep your lines compact during setup.
