Saint-Cyprien Plage sits on a southeast-facing stretch of Mediterranean coastline in Occitanie, between Perpignan and the Spanish border. It's a sandy beach resort town built around a marina, and the two local winds — the Tramontane and the Marin — define everything about how you ride here. Get the wind wrong and you're in trouble; get it right and you've got one of the more distinctive setups on the French Mediterranean coast. The Tramontane comes from the northwest. At Saint-Cyprien, that angle makes it side-offshore: the wind is pushing you away from the beach, not back toward it. It runs between 25 and 45 knots when it blows properly, and that combination of power and offshore direction is not something to take casually. The water near shore can look deceptively flat, but drift out in a Tramontane and your options narrow fast. The kite schools operating from the marina complex run Tramontane sessions with safety boat support — and there's a reason for that. If you're launching independently, the checklist is short but firm: experienced rider, self-rescue solid, someone on shore who knows your plan. Get those boxes ticked and you'll find consistent, powerful conditions. The Marin comes from the southeast — directly onshore at Saint-Cyprien — and delivers flat Mediterranean water. It's a different kind of session: cleaner, calmer, and with the wind helping you back to the beach if things get uncomfortable. Good for freeride laps, good for technique work, good for anyone who wants to progress without fighting chop or managing an offshore angle. The season runs March through October. The marina complex is the practical heart of the spot. Schools are based there, support infrastructure is in place, and the post-session options are close by. For food, L'Écailler and La Tenc handle sit-down meals; Salty's Pizza and Tacot Town are the easier options when you're tired and hungry. Bar PMU le 8, Le Passage, Le Pub à la Française, Mamcino, and Le Kiosque de la Prade are the café-bar options for a drink once you've rinsed the salt off. McDonald's rounds it out when speed matters more than anything else. The practical split: Tramontane days are for experienced riders who understand offshore conditions and have their safety figured out. Marin days are accessible for a wider range of intermediates and work well for lessons. Know which wind is blowing before you commit to a session — the two demand completely different approaches.
