Salines Beach sits at the very southern tip of Martinique, where the coastline turns to face almost due south and the Caribbean trades arrive without obstruction. It draws both day-trippers and kiteboarders, and for the latter the combination of steady trade wind and a tide-dependent sheltered lagoon makes this southern corner of the island worth the drive. From Ste-Anne, the beach is a short drive south, well signposted from the village, with parking available near the beach. The launch is on a south-facing shoreline with a shore normal of roughly 180°. The East-North-East trade winds that define Caribbean kite season arrive here as a side-shore wind — coming in from your left as you face the water. That angle typically delivers 18–25 knots during the season, steady and consistent rather than gusty. The usable kite window spans 90°–270°, and the trades sit squarely within it. What makes Salines stand out is what happens at low tide. A flat lagoon inside the reef opens up — still, sheltered water in a steady trade wind. This is the real prize of the spot. At higher tides the lagoon fills and conditions shift to choppier, more open water. Checking the tide table before you head out is not optional here; it determines the kind of session you get. Ste-Anne has a known kite school presence, which means rental and tuition options exist in the area if you are arriving without gear. It also means the launch zones get busy on good trade-wind days — right-of-way awareness when rigging and launching matters. For food and drinks, Salines is well covered. For meals you have Delim's, La Daurade, Le Rendez Vous, O'Peyi Martinik, Paille Coco, People Beach, Pirates Beach, and Pizza Peyi all within reach, covering post-session food without a drive back to town. The best season runs December through July. The Northeast trades settle into their most consistent rhythm over the southern Caribbean during these months, and Martinique picks up reliable wind days. August through November is hurricane season — trade consistency falls and sessions become harder to plan. For skill level, the flat-water lagoon at low tide is accessible for beginners, and the kite school presence in Ste-Anne supports that end of the market. Intermediate and above riders find more to play with when the tide rises and open water is available. The side-shore trade angle gives you a clear upwind corridor and open water downwind — a clean setup once you have the tidal rhythm worked out.
