The northwest Ionian wind arrives directly side-on across the lagoon making it the calmest, most beginner-friendly kite area on Crete. Typical summer wind 15–20 kt (Force 4–5 Beaufort), reinforced by afternoon thermal. Access via the eastern beach from the car park; the lagoon crossing to the islet is waded at low water. Season May–October; July–August peak.
Elafonisi is an island located close to the southwestern corner of the Mediterranean island of Crete, of which it is administratively a part, in the municipality of Kissamos of the regional unit of Chania.
