The Meltemi funnels through this island gap, creating a jet effect that consistently adds 5–10 kt above the open-sea forecast, often pushing conditions to 6+ Beaufort (28+ kt) in July–August. Shallow, choppy water; strong side-onshore from the north-west. Best for intermediate-to-advanced riders; beginners should use the calmer south beach of the same name. Twin kite-centre operation with Mastichari beach, with free shuttle. Season June–September.
Mastichari is a fishing village and tourist resort on the island of Kos in Greece with a population of 479 (2021), situated 7 kilometers away from Kos International Airport. The town has a port with boats regularly departing to the island of Kalymnos. Mastihari has only been inhabited since 1933, when an earthquake struck a nearby village and the inhabitants had to migrate.
