About Psalidi (Kos)
Psalidi sits on the north-east coast of Kos, roughly three kilometres east of Kos Town, facing out across the Aegean towards the Turkish coastline. It's the windiest beach on the island, and the kite scene here runs hard from June through September. Getting there from Kos Town is straightforward — the beach road runs east along the coast and delivers you to a stretch of sand that hosts several established kite schools. You'll have no trouble finding the spot; the kites in the air are visible long before you arrive. The wind engine is the Meltemi, the Aegean's summer north-westerly that builds across the Greek island chain before arriving at Psalidi from around north-west. Standing on the beach facing the water, that means the wind comes in slightly side-offshore from the left — which shapes everything about how you ride here. The usable kite window runs from 300° through to 120°, but the Meltemi is the core wind you're here for. Expect it to build around midday and hold through to sunset. June, July, and August are the reliable months — 80–90% consistency is exceptional for a beach holiday destination. Mornings are often light, so there's no need to rush your breakfast. The water at Psalidi is choppy. The Meltemi generates a short, steep sea that stacks up through the afternoon, and with the side-offshore component the conditions develop quickly. This is not a flat-water learners' beach — chop plus an offshore angle makes Psalidi genuinely intermediate-to-advanced terrain. On the stronger Meltemi days, a 9 m comes out. Bring both if your quiver allows it. After the session, the beach strip is well set up.
