Kadikalesi — also known locally as Gümbet — sits on the northwest coast of Turkey's Bodrum peninsula in the Aegean, near the AVTA holiday village. The setting is quintessentially Aegean: a sandy beach backed by typical Turkish coastal development, with a direct sea launch that gets you on the water without fuss once you've scoped the scene. The wind here is a northwest thermal that builds from midday through the afternoon. In peak summer it typically settles into the 16–25 knot range — enough to put a smile on intermediate faces and keep experienced riders honest when the waves start stacking. The usable kite window spans a wide arc from south-southwest through west and northwest all the way into the north-northeast, which gives the spot reasonable consistency when the thermal fires. Mornings tend to be light; plan your session accordingly. What separates Kadikalesi from a standard holiday flatwater fix is the water texture. Real waves form along the shoreline and, when conditions align, they give wave riders and freestylers genuine material to work with. Cross-shore conditions make the setup workable for launching and landing, but this is firmly an intermediate-to-advanced spot. The combination of thermal gusts, wave action, and reading cross-shore entries properly demands solid upwind ability and confident water skills. If you're still nailing your water starts, nearby Bitez bay offers flatter, more forgiving water — the sensible alternative. Launch is directly from the sandy beach. Bodrum tourism is real and the beach gets busy in midsummer, so brief your landing helper before you rig and choose your launch window when the crowd thins. There's no documented launch fee or formal rigging area, so read the beach yourself on arrival. On the facilities side, you're not roughing it. Aydem Beach Otel is nearby for accommodation, and budget-minded riders have several options: Bodrum Ecofarm Camping & Hostel, bodrum masalı camp & hostel, and Bodrum tent camp. For instruction or local knowledge, Bu Bi Sörf Okulu Bodrum is the kite school in the area and worth a visit even if you're not booking lessons — the staff generally know how the day's thermal is shaping up. Midsummer delivers the most reliable thermal windows; spring and autumn are more variable but quieter on the beach.
