About Keros Beach (Limnos)

Keros Beach occupies a wide, sandy bay on the eastern side of Limnos island in the northern Aegean, roughly equidistant between mainland Greece and the Turkish coast. It is one of the region's most developed kite destinations — you will find multiple schools, accommodation that drops you metres from the water, and a scene that runs from beginners taking their first lesson to experienced riders pushing their limits in proper Aegean conditions. Getting to Limnos means a flight into Myrina Airport or a ferry crossing. From there, Keros sits on the island's eastern side near the village of Kontopouli. The road leads directly to the beach and parking is available close to the launch area, so rigging up is straightforward once you are on island. The beach itself is a broad, open bay with a sandy shoreline. Its orientation is well-suited to the dominant northerly and northeasterly winds, which are the workhorses here. The usable kite window runs from 325° through to 145°, so N, NE, and SE all put you in business. Winds out of the south or southwest fall outside the window and are days to watch from the beach rather than ride. Summer thermals in the northern Aegean can build into something consistent and punchy, particularly in the afternoon. Conditions can shift, so check your forecast and talk to the schools on site before rigging — they will know what the day is actually doing better than any remote data source. The open bay gives riders plenty of room to work with. For intermediates and above the conditions can be genuinely rewarding; for beginners, the schools here offer structured progression in a spot that is well set up for it. The facility situation at Keros is strong. Three kite schools operate on the beach: Keros Blue – Kitesurf Beach, Siroko Wind Club, and Κέρος. If you are hiring gear, taking lessons, or just want sharp local knowledge, you are sorted. Accommodation options include KEROS BLUE Luxury in Wilderness, Surf Club Keros, The Surf House, Stone House Limnos, and THEALASSA APARTMENTS — several of these are kite-specific setups where the crowd at breakfast is the same crowd you will be riding with. Hotel Villa Sophia in Kontopouli is a short distance away for something slightly off the beach. For food and drinks between sessions, Il Vento is the on-site option. Limnos is an island, which means wind-down days are genuinely days off — but the island has enough to keep you occupied. The kite scene at Keros feels relaxed and well-organised rather than crowded and chaotic. Come with a flexible schedule, particularly around transport connections.
