Camp Bay Beach sits on the East End of Roatán, the largest of Honduras's Bay Islands, in the Western Caribbean off the north coast of the Honduran mainland. Getting there means making your way east along the island's main road — the East End is quieter and more low-key than the resort areas to the west, and Camp Bay is a proper kite beach, not an afterthought on a tourism strip. The setup is a 1.5 km natural beach with a 450 m-wide kite zone between the sand and the outer reef. Water depth through the zone runs around 3 m — workable for relaunches, not so deep that a downed kite becomes a wrestling match. The ENE trade wind is the engine here, typically running 12–25 kt across the bay. The wind arc runs from north-northwest (355°) all the way around through east to south-southeast (175°), and the prevailing ENE trade sits comfortably within that usable window. On a good day in April or May — the peak of the season — you're looking at 20+ kt holding all day. The best window runs February through August, covering roughly half the year; outside those months the trades can get less consistent. Launch from the beach itself. The sand gives you space to rig and sort lines without drama. Kitesurf Roatan runs the school operation here with beach assistants on hand for launches and landings, plus a rescue boat on standby. If you're launching independently, the setup is clean — just confirm where the reef edge sits relative to your downwind trajectory before you go. The reef is what gives Camp Bay its structure, and it's worth understanding properly. It provides a natural boundary to the kite zone and keeps the water inside relatively calm and manageable. At the same time, it's a hard downwind limit. The rescue boat is there for a reason. Knowing the reef layout before your first session is straightforward preparation, not paranoia. Facilities are solid for a remote east-end location. Camp Bay Lodge and Chelles Roatan both offer accommodation within easy reach of the water — you can genuinely check conditions before deciding whether to rig up. For food and drinks after a session, Camp Bay Palapa Bar & Restaurant, Chelle's, Cliffsides Camp Bay, and La Sirena de Camp Bay all cluster nearby, which is a decent spread for a spot this size. This place suits intermediates and above riding independently. The consistent trade wind, defined kite zone, and rescue cover make it approachable, but the reef boundary means you want basic kite control sorted before launching solo. Beginners can get started properly through Kitesurf Roatan. Advanced riders will appreciate the reliable window and the fetch — 450 m between beach and reef is enough room to build speed and work the gusts without constantly checking over your shoulder.
