About Anjuna Beach
Anjuna Beach sits on Goa's northern coastline, tucked between Morjim to the north and Baga to the south. It faces west onto the Arabian Sea, and from November through March the beach becomes a working kite spot, with NW/NNW side-onshore winds pushing across the sand consistently enough to plan a trip around. The usable wind window here runs from 180° through 359° — a wide arc that covers the southern and western compass points all the way to nearly due north. In practice, the prevailing direction during season is NW to NNW: side-onshore, manageable, and typically ranging between 12 and 20 knots. Enough wind to get proper sessions in, without being the kind of spot that regularly overpowers intermediate riders. Water conditions change with distance from shore. The inner section is flat — genuinely flat, not just 'calmer than expected' — which makes it good territory for building confidence or working on technique. Push further out and you'll find chop and small waves that add variety to the session. For most intermediate riding, the inner zone is where the action is. Multiple kite schools operate at Anjuna, which makes it practical whether you're after lessons, gear rental, or simply a conversation with someone who knows the current state of the beach. Local instructors are worth talking to before your first session — they'll have a read on conditions and can flag anything specific about the launch area. On the ground, the beach is well-served. Bunkd Hostel is essentially beachside at around 42 metres, making it a convenient base. Baba.Bar and Anjuna Palms are both within a kilometre if you want different accommodation options. For food and drink, 7-Eleven is the closest option at roughly 83 metres, Avalon Sunset is a short walk at around 250 metres, and Cafe H2O, Cafe Delish, and Cafe Orange Boom give you further options within a kilometre. Anjuna is a popular tourist beach, and that cuts both ways. The infrastructure is there — good accommodation, food close by, schools on the water. But the beach gets busy as the day goes on, with non-riders moving through areas you'd rather kept clear. Morning sessions typically give you more space and cleaner launches. Talk to the schools, check conditions before rigging, watch the lines, and you'll find Anjuna delivers as a solid base for a North Goa kite trip.
