About Morjim Beach

Morjim sits at the mouth of the Chapora River on Goa's north coast, where a wide sandy beach meets shallow, river-fed water — a setup that works well for kitesurfers of all levels. The spot faces broadly southwest, and the wind arc runs 210°–330°, meaning a clean SW thermal fetch with no significant land obstruction. The wind pattern here is thermal-driven. From around noon, the sea breeze builds out of the southwest, typically running 12–20 knots through the pre-monsoon window. February through May is the sweet spot — conditions are more reliable, the gusts are manageable, and the water stays shallow enough near the river mouth to be forgiving if things go sideways. Once the full southwest monsoon arrives from June onwards, the wind can crank up well beyond comfortable, and most local riders pack it in until the following season. The beach itself is wide and sandy — there's room to rig and walk your kite down without threading through crowds, which is a genuine luxury on India's coast. The river mouth creates a shallow, flatter section of water that's well-suited to learning and progression. Further out, you'll find more space to build speed, though as with any river-mouth setup, watch the current when you're working your way back upwind. One thing to know before you head north on the beach: the northern end is a nesting zone for olive ridley turtles. Exclusion markers are posted and should be respected — stay south of the boundary during nesting season. On the facilities side, there's a solid cluster of spots to bookend your session. Morjim doesn't have the infrastructure of a fully developed kite centre, so come prepared: bring your own equipment in good working order, and if you're not a confident self-rescuer, sort a safety vest before you arrive. The shallow river-mouth water is a genuine asset for beginners, but the thermal cycle means you'll be launching into building wind — rig up before the pressure builds, not after. Overall, Morjim is a good-natured spot with a dependable session window from February to May. The water is forgiving, the beach has space to work with, and the wind typically shows up on schedule.
