Three-kilometre Atlantic beach at Streedagh Point, north Sligo — 3 km of open ocean exposure. Shore normal W (~270°). SW is cross-onshore from the left; W is dead onshore bringing waves; SE is offshore (expert only). Sandy estuary channel to the east side. Strong swell in SW Atlantic depressions.
The Battle of Creadran Cille was fought in 1257 between the Irish of Tír Chonaill, led by Gofraidh Ó Domhnaill, and the Anglo-Irish, led by Maurice FitzGerald. It took place at Ros Ceide in the territory of Cairbre Drom Cliabh, near Sligo town. The forces of Tír Chonaill were victorious and drove the English out of their territory.
