Ashdod sits on Israel's Mediterranean coastline south of Tel Aviv — a working port city with a proper kite beach along its southern shore. Hakshatot Beach is the local session spot, positioned where the marina breakwater provides partial shelter and shapes what you find on the water. The name translates loosely as 'arches', and the spot is well-known to the Israeli kite community. The approach from central Ashdod is straightforward along the coastal road. Parking is generally available near the beach, though summer weekends draw city residents to the shore in numbers — arriving early saves the hunt. The launch is sandy with enough space to rig and lay out lines, and the breakwater to one side keeps things more contained than a fully exposed Mediterranean stretch. Wind here is predominantly N/NW, running 15–22 knots through the season. With a usable wind window spanning 180° to 359°, the spot handles southerly through northwesterly directions — but the N/NW component is the workhorse. That puts the wind cross-to-side-shore, which is an honest setup for intermediates: enough power to session properly, and predictable enough that you're not constantly second-guessing the gusts. The water runs flat to small chop — no meaningful swell pushes through — making it a good venue for working on technique without fighting a washing machine. The season runs April through October. Spring and early summer tend to bring more consistent flow; conditions hold well through the summer months in typical Mediterranean fashion. The spot carries minimal restrictions, which compares favourably to some alternatives in the region. On the water, expect flat to moderate chop rather than anything punchy. When conditions align, the breakwater's lee can leave things glassy closer in. It's not a freestyle park, but a dependable intermediate venue — good for carving runs, working on transitions, and logging relaxed sessions without unnecessary drama. Facilities are spread across the surrounding kilometre or so. Hotel Unique Ashdod is the closest accommodation at under 700 metres. See&Sun, Hotel Apartments "Ashdod Beach", and Miami Hotel are all within roughly 1.3km. For food, Pizza Hut is about a kilometre away; Ashdod market and RIO are a little further along. Grab a coffee at Sabo before the session or Cofix on the way back. Standard Mediterranean hazards apply: watch for other beach users on busy summer days, keep the breakwater structure in your mental map, and know your exit points before you launch. The flat water and partial shelter make self-rescue logistics more forgiving than exposed ocean spots, but run through your checks regardless.
