Margherita di Savoia sits on the northern Puglia coast where the Adriatic meets one of Italy's most significant saltpan systems. The long sandy beach runs in a near-unbroken line facing east, backed by the shallow lagoons and salt flats that have defined this town for centuries. As a kite spot, it offers something relatively rare on the Italian Adriatic: two distinct water characters in close proximity — flat, sheltered water on the lagoon side and open-sea chop directly off the beach. Getting here from Bari or Foggia is straightforward; the coastal road brings you directly into town. Parking along the beachfront is generally relaxed outside peak summer weekends. The launch area is the sandy beach itself — long enough that you're rarely fighting for space, though summer afternoons bring a mix of beach-goers and water sports enthusiasts. The dominant summer winds are the Tramontana from the north and the Maestrale from the northwest, typically running 15–25 knots through the May–September window. With the shore facing east, these winds arrive as side-shore to cross-offshore — perfectly rideable, but something to stay aware of, particularly for newer riders. The usable wind window runs from NNE through to SSE (20°–160°), which captures both the Tramontana and Maestrale well. On the open-sea side, expect typical Adriatic short-period chop that builds quickly when the wind picks up. If flat water is your goal, the lagoon side delivers — the shallow, warm saltpan waters provide a strikingly different riding experience, calm and almost surreal in their stillness. Experienced riders often work both sides in a single session. For skill level, Margherita di Savoia suits the full range. Beginners benefit from consistent summer wind in the lighter end of the range and a forgiving sandy beach with good run-out. Intermediates and above will enjoy the variety — flat-water freestyle in the lagoon to choppy Adriatic riding on the open-sea side. When the Tramontana pushes toward the top of its range, the cross-offshore angle earns its respect; a self-rescue plan and a buddy on the beach aren't optional. After a session, the town delivers. Bar Fiamma, Caffè Savoia, Garden Cafè, Marconi, and Porta Salina are solid café and drinks options near the waterfront. Al Vicoletto and Ciccibacco sit well for a proper post-session meal — in a saltpan town on the Adriatic, the seafood is the obvious order. Margherita di Savoia isn't overrun with kite infrastructure, and that's part of its appeal. It's a working Pugliese town with a beach that happens to get reliable wind. Come prepared, respect the cross-offshore element, and you'll find it a satisfying and often uncrowded session.
