San Leone sits at the bottom of Sicily's southern coast, tucked into the Marina di Agrigento — the beach town that serves as the seaside gateway to the Valle dei Templi, one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temple complexes in the world. That backdrop alone makes this spot memorable, but kiters come for the Scirocco. The beach itself is wide and sandy, which makes everything easier: rigging space is generous, the launch is straightforward, and there's room to sort your lines without stepping on swimmers. The shore faces due south — shore normal sits at 180° — so when the Scirocco rolls in from the SE to S, you're riding in a window that keeps your kite well overhead and your lines clear of the beach. The usable wind arc runs from 105° through to 255°, covering that Scirocco-dominant band comfortably. The Scirocco here is the main event. It's a warm, consistent southerly that builds as the season gets going, typically reliable from May through October. It tends to bring some chop and small wave sets rather than glassy flat water, so expect a lively surface rather than a millpond. Nothing extreme, but it keeps things interesting — intermediates and above will feel at home, especially on a twintip working the chop. The beach scene is relaxed. This isn't a pumping kite hub with fifty kites in the air; it's a local-flavoured spot where the vibe stays calm even on a good wind day. In summer, there's a kite school and rental on site, which takes the logistics pressure off if you're travelling without your own kit or want a local guide on conditions. Outside the peak summer months, you're more on your own, so come prepared. Getting there is simple enough — San Leone is well-connected to Agrigento town, a short drive inland. The marina area has the usual summer beach services within walking distance. A few things to keep in mind: the Scirocco can push sand and spray, so rinse your gear promptly. Because the wind comes from SE–S onto a south-facing shore, the water is generally forgiving for getting back in, but watch for any cross-shore variation on lighter days. The small waves and chop mean beginners should wait until the school can properly introduce them to local conditions rather than going it alone. May to October is your window. Peak summer brings the most consistent Scirocco and the school and rental services. Shoulder months — May, June, September, October — can offer cleaner conditions with fewer crowds on the beach.
