Licata · Manfria sits on Sicily's southern coast, a stretch of sand facing squarely into the Mediterranean between the fishing port of Licata and the town of Gela, in the Province of Agrigento. The exposure here is almost total — nothing between you and North Africa — and the area is known as one of the windier stretches of coastline on the island. Getting there means following the coast road between Licata and Manfria. The beach is accessible and there's room to rig on the sand before you launch. The bottom is flat and sandy throughout, which keeps the riding forgiving and makes it a reasonable place to build confidence or work on new moves without worrying about what's underneath you. The wind story splits cleanly by season. From spring through summer, the Scirocco arrives from the south-southeast — warm, sometimes very strong, and largely onshore given the beach's south-facing orientation. It can build as the day progresses, so arriving early, checking what the morning looks like, and sizing down before you launch rather than after is the right call here. In autumn, the Maestrale takes over from the northwest, shifting the angle to cross-offshore. That changes the risk profile considerably: if you come off your board in a strong Maestrale, you're going downwind away from shore. Autumn riding at Manfria is rewarding but not casual — have someone watching from the beach and know your self-rescue. The flat sandy bottom is the spot's biggest asset. Clean water, no reef, no sudden depth changes close in, and long runs in either direction make it well suited to intermediates who can handle variable onshore conditions and know when to size down. More advanced riders will find it enjoyable on a big Scirocco day, but it's not a big-air venue — the flat water is the draw, not the jumps. An IKO-certified school operates at Contrada Tenutella, worth a stop for a local conditions briefing even if you're not there for lessons. The seasonal wind shifts and the variability of Scirocco days mean local knowledge pays off more than you might expect. On facilities: Saint Louis, a bar and cafe, is your option on the ground — a solid spot to sit down after a session. This is a working stretch of Sicilian coast rather than a built-out kite destination, so don't arrive expecting a full resort infrastructure. The season runs April through October. Late spring — May into early June — typically offers the most consistent and manageable Scirocco conditions before the full heat of the Sicilian summer arrives. If you're combining a kite trip with sightseeing, the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento is close by, which makes this part of Sicily worth the detour on its own.
