Surf Relax is a kitesurf spot on the Tyrrhenian coast of Tuscany, positioned within the Gulf of Follonica near the small headland of Puntone di Scarlino. The setting is quintessential southern Tuscany: low-lying sandy shoreline, Mediterranean scrub, and across the water on a clear afternoon you can pick out the silhouette of the Tuscan Archipelago. It's the kind of spot that looks better than the drive in — and the drive in isn't bad. Getting here is straightforward. The spot sits close to the Via Aurelia, the old Roman coastal road that links most of the Maremma's beach access points. Parking is nearby, and the walk to the water doesn't ask much of you when you're hauling gear. The launch area is sandy, which keeps things manageable: you're not fighting a rocky foreshore or trying to rig on a pebbly slope. The water character in the Gulf of Follonica tends toward flat to moderate chop rather than heavy swell. The bay is semi-enclosed, there's no significant Atlantic fetch, and the seabed stays sandy and shallow close to shore. That makes it a reasonable venue for building hours and working on technique without getting hammered by waves. On days when the wind picks up, a little more texture develops offshore, but the zone near the launch typically stays workable. Wind at this latitude follows a broadly thermal pattern in summer: coastal breezes tend to build through the morning and peak through the afternoon before easing off toward evening. The shoulder seasons can bring more consistent synoptic pressure. Because detailed wind documentation for this specific spot is limited, checking local forecasts on the day matters more than usual — don't assume the thermal will fire on schedule. The facility situation at Puntone is solid. Mistral Bar is the most on-the-nose name for a kitesurf stop, and Marina Club is another practical option for post-session refreshments. Bar H, Bar l'impòsto, and RistoBar Puntone handle the café and quick-bite end of things. For a proper sit-down meal, Il Veliero, Il Cerro, Il Beccofino, Mama, and Ristorante Vittorio are all within reach of the water. It's not the kind of spot where you finish a session and wonder where to eat. Skill-level wise, the flat-water tendency and sandy launch make this a reasonable pick for confident beginners under supervision, intermediates looking to build mileage, and experienced riders after a relaxed, undemanding day on the water. The name Surf Relax earns it.
