Lutong Beach stretches along the South China Sea coast just north of Miri in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. The beach faces northwest — shore normal roughly 315° — which sets it up squarely for the Northeast Monsoon that drives this part of the South China Sea from November through March. During those months, wind arrives from the NNE to NE at 20–30 knots, coming in side-shore from your right as you face the water. It's a consistent, workable window for kiting, and one that most riders travelling in Southeast Asia haven't clocked yet. Miri is the main regional hub for this part of Sarawak — Lutong sits just up the coast from the city centre. Getting to the beach is a short drive north along the coastal strip. The area is low-key and unfussy, which typically means uncrowded conditions on the water. The water character is what makes Lutong interesting: shallow sandbanks extend offshore and take the edge off South China Sea swell, leaving relatively flat water in the kite zone behind them. It's not always glassy, but the sandbank effect keeps things manageable on most monsoon sessions.
