Moulay Bousselham sits on Morocco's Atlantic coast roughly halfway between Tangier and Rabat, where the edge of the Merja Zerga lagoon — a large, protected nature reserve — meets the open Atlantic. It's a genuine fishing village, not a built-up resort, and that's precisely the appeal for riders looking for good conditions without the crowds. There are two distinct spots. The lagoon side is the main event: wide, shallow, and flat, it's tailor-made for freestyle and foiling. The shallow water keeps the consequences of a mistake low, and the large fetch gives you room to build speed and work on your riding without constantly doubling back. Local fishing boats operate on the lagoon regularly — they have right of way and will not alter course for kite lines. Scan the water carefully before launching and stay heads-up throughout your session. Cross to the ocean side and you're on a proper Atlantic beach with beach-break waves rolling in. Cross-shore winds make this a workable wave spot when the swell cooperates. The beach can narrow significantly at high tide, so scope your launch corridor and landing zone before you rig. The wind profile runs on two main axes — NNE and SSW — both of which come in cross-shore relative to the main riding areas. Year-round riding is realistic here: thermal winds drive summer sessions while Atlantic frontal systems keep things active through autumn and winter. Conditions change character markedly between seasons — it's not the same spot in July as it is in January. Infrastructure is limited and honest. No kite schools, no rentals, no rescue support on the water. Arrive self-sufficient: your own gear in good condition, a self-rescue routine you've actually practiced, and ideally a riding buddy who knows you're out. For accommodation, Camping Atlantis Gate and Camping Kbir are the two local bases and typically serve as the gathering point for kite travellers passing through. The food and cafe scene is compact but functional. Kabano Beach, La plage, L'océan, La Terrasse, and Firdaousse handle full meals; Al Abrar, Café Izaguirre, and La caravela cover coffee and lighter bites. Enough to refuel and debrief without leaving town. Moulay Bousselham doesn't promote itself. The lagoon is quietly excellent for intermediate and advanced riders chasing flat water — especially foilers, who get consistent depth, space, and a long downwind run. The wave beach adds a second dimension. The nature reserve setting keeps crowds thin and the backdrop genuinely striking. Come prepared, respect the fishing traffic, and the spot tends to deliver.
