About Sidi Moussa Lagoon

Sidi Moussa Lagoon sits on Morocco's Atlantic coast in the Casablanca-Settat region, roughly 35 miles north of Oualidia and a short drive from El Jadida. Getting here requires a 4×4 — the approach track is not paved-road territory, and that same barrier keeps the crowds thin. On the right day, you pull up to a stretch of mirror-flat water that looks like it was placed there specifically for kiting. The lagoon comes alive when north to north-northeast winds arrive and settle in the 10 to 20 knot range. That's the sweet spot: enough power to move cleanly without the chop that stronger gusts tend to produce, and the lagoon's orientation means the surface inside flattens almost completely. The usable kite window runs from 190° through to 10° — a generous arc — but the N/NNE direction is where this spot shows its best. For flat-water riding, Sidi Moussa offers a surface that's genuinely rare on the Atlantic coast. Freeriders, foilers, and freestyle riders working on technical moves will all find something here when conditions cooperate. Intermediate riders can manage the lagoon when wind is consistent and settled, though the remoteness deserves honest consideration. There is no rescue infrastructure on site and facilities are minimal — self-sufficiency matters here from the moment you leave the main road. Advanced riders get something extra: a wave break at the river mouth. The contrast between the calm lagoon interior and the break at the opening means you can transition between flat water and a real challenge within the same session — something that separates Sidi Moussa from more managed kitesites along this coastline. One hazard demands respect: rocky shallows at low tide. Walk the launch zone before rigging, check the tidal state, and keep track of where the rocks sit as conditions shift through the day. A leading edge on rock is a session-ender at best. April through September is the window to target. Outside those months, conditions become less consistent and the approach harder to justify. Accommodation options in the surrounding area include Dreamsea Surf Camp Morocco, Imsouane Surf Camp, Sidi Mouja Surf Camp Morocco, and WOW Beach House. For instruction or equipment support, Next Wave Surf School is available in the area. The lagoon itself has nothing on offer once you arrive, so pack water, food, and a basic first-aid kit before you set out — and build in time to walk the launch before you rig.
