About Tofo Beach
Tofo Beach sits on a wide stretch of coast in Inhambane Province, about 22 kilometres from Inhambane town. The beach is long and sandy, open to the Indian Ocean — warm clear water, reef breaks in the mix, and SE and NE trade winds that deliver reliable sessions across two distinct seasons. It's one of the better-known kite destinations on the Mozambican coast, with a setting that goes well beyond the riding. Getting here is a drive from Inhambane. The beach strip has enough going on once you arrive. Albatroz, Beach Lounge, Casa de comer, and Oyster Bar cover proper meals; Bar Maria, Barraca da Lixeira, Black&White, and Local bar and food handle the cold-drink side of the day. Chauque & Joao Tofo Juice Shop is worth knowing about for something lighter. Casa Barry Beach Lodge is on the list if you want to stay close to the water. No dedicated kite school or gear hire is listed here — arrive self-sufficient. Wind runs in two main windows. May through September brings the SE trades at 15–25 knots — steady and consistent enough to plan a trip around. December through March delivers the NE season with similar speeds and warmer conditions. Outside those windows the wind gets patchy. The usable kite arc runs from North through East to South, which means both the SE and NE trade directions fall comfortably within it. Westerly winds push offshore here and are a no-go — check the direction carefully before rigging, not just the speed. The water is warm and clear.
