July and August are particularly popular, with longer days and a combination of thermal and synoptic wind that can produce solid sessions. This spot is best suited to intermediate and advanced riders. The combination of shell-covered shoreline, shallow water, and the need for a confident self-sufficient launch makes it less ideal for beginners. If you're still learning, look for a supervised school spot elsewhere in Zeeland first.

The shoreline has rocks, stones, and shells that can be sharp underfoot — water shoes are strongly recommended. The water is shallow, which means mistakes during waterstart attempts can result in contact with the bottom. Always scout the area before riding and be aware of other water users on the Oosterschelde.

Southwesterly winds are the most common and generally work well for this spot, pushing across the Oosterschelde estuary in a relatively clean direction. West and northwest winds can also provide rideable conditions, but check the local geography as surrounding dikes and land can affect wind quality in certain directions.

This depends on conditions, but a 9–12m kite covers a wide range of typical summer winds here. The Zeeland coast can see stronger gusts during transitional weather periods, so having a smaller kite (7–9m) available is wise if the forecast shows building wind. Always check a current forecast before heading out.

Yes, the Oosterschelde offers relatively flat water with some chop — especially in stronger winds. It's a good alternative to open North Sea spots when you want a smoother surface. The shallow depth keeps wave height low even in moderate winds.

Facilities are minimal. There is a support pole on the right side of the beach, but there's no rental school, café, or changing rooms directly at the launch. Come fully prepared with your own food, water, and first aid supplies. The nearby town of Zierikzee has shops and services.

Ouwerkerk is located on Schouwen-Duiveland in Zeeland, the Netherlands. It's accessible by car via the N59, which connects the island to the mainland. Follow signs toward the village and look for access roads toward the Oosterschelde waterfront. Public transport is limited in this area, so a car is the practical option.

It's technically possible to self-launch here, but the spot is not particularly forgiving for solo launches given the shell and rock hazards during setup. Bringing a friend or riding partner to assist with launch and landing is strongly recommended, both for safety and convenience.

Ouwerkerk is generally quieter than more well-known Zeeland kite spots, which is part of its appeal. On strong wind days in summer you may encounter other local riders, but it rarely feels overcrowded. The relative lack of facilities keeps casual visitors away and maintains a calm atmosphere.
