Calaguas · Tinaga Beach sits on the eastern shore of Tinaga Island, part of the Calaguas archipelago off the Camarines Norte coast in the Bicol region of the Philippines. To get here you take a boat from Daet or Paracale — there's no road access, no airport transfers, no shortcut. That journey across open water is the filter: it keeps the crowds away and the beach looking the way it does. Mahabang Buhangin — the long white-sand stretch along Tinaga's eastern Pacific flank — is where you set up. The beach faces roughly east, which puts the Amihan (NE trade wind) arriving from just off your right shoulder when you're looking out to sea. That's a cross-onshore angle: you get a clean, usable window and the water in front of you is open Pacific. Expect 15–25 kt during the Amihan season, which runs roughly November through April. Below 15 kt the session gets frustrating; above 25 kt the chop builds and the remote setting becomes a more serious consideration. The launch itself is wide and sandy with plenty of space to lay out and rig without drama. The beach is long enough that you have room to work without other users in your face — though that changes when island-hopping day-trippers arrive by boat, which can happen. Time your sessions around the boat traffic if you can. The water character here is Pacific-open: genuine ocean swell and chop, especially as the Amihan strengthens toward January and February. This isn't a flat-water lagoon — there's real texture and movement out there. Intermediates comfortable in open-ocean conditions will enjoy it. Beginners would be in over their heads given the remote setting alone: self-rescue on an exposed Pacific shore, well away from the mainland with your boat the only way home, is a real scenario you have to own. On facilities: the island has several accommodation options — Calaguas Island - Hotel and Resort, Calaguas Island Trips, Calaguas Paradise Resort, Calaguas White Sand Resort, Calaguas Local, and I Love Calaguas Island Resort. Expect simple, basic setups rather than anything resembling a resort town. No kite school operates here, so arrive with your own gear, your own skills, and your own read on the conditions. Supplies and support are on the mainland. What you bring on the boat is what you have for the duration. The window that makes this spot work is November through April, with the heart of the Amihan delivering the most consistent conditions in December, January, and February. Outside that window the wind pattern shifts and kiting becomes unreliable. This is a destination for kiters who want a genuinely remote beach and can handle themselves in open Pacific conditions without a rescue service nearby.
