Playa de Paraiso sits on the northeast coast of Guimaras, an island province tucked into the Panay Gulf between Iloilo and Negros in the central Philippines. Getting here typically means a ferry from Iloilo City across to Guimaras, then a jeepney or tricycle south toward San Enrique or San Lorenzo — the beach is on the quieter, less-developed side of the island, which is most of the point. The spot is a flat-water lagoon with a sandy bottom and water clear enough to count your fins beneath you. The shoreline faces northeast at roughly 050°, pointing it squarely into the Amihan — the northeast trade wind that drives the Philippine kitesurfing season from November through March. When the Amihan is running, you can expect 12 to 30 knots of fairly consistent northeast breeze, the kind that arrives in the morning and holds through the early afternoon on good days. Inside the lagoon, the flat water and forgiving sandy bottom make this a natural training ground for beginners. There's room to depower, relaunch a dropped kite, and sort out water starts without dealing with dumping surf or strong current. The geometry rewards anyone still building their upwind game. Outside the lagoon, conditions shift — medium-sized waves give experienced riders something to work with, whether that's jump sessions or wave riding when the swell cooperates. The mangroves lining parts of the shore are worth noting before you set up. They define the edges of the rideable area and can complicate a downwind drift if you stop paying attention to position. Otters have been spotted here too — the ecosystem is genuinely intact, and it's worth treating it that way. Keep your kite clear of the mangrove fringe and don't drag lines through vegetation. Facilities at the beach are minimal. There are no listed rental shops or kite schools on-site, so arrive with your own gear in good working order and with spare lines and a repair kit. Guimaras has basic accommodation and food in the main towns, but this is not a full kite resort setup. The Amihan season — November through March — is your window. Outside those months, the southwest Habagat monsoon flips the wind direction and the spot loses its consistent fetch. If you are planning a trip specifically for kitesurfing, target the northeast monsoon months. Playa de Paraiso rewards the effort to reach it. It is not a quick transfer from an international hub, but the lagoon quality — flat water, clean sand, crystal clarity, steady Amihan — is the real deal. Beginners get a protected environment to build confidence; intermediates and advanced riders get progressively more demanding conditions as they push past the lagoon's edge.
