Vityazevo Bay sits just outside Anapa on Russia's Black Sea coast in Krasnodar Krai — a triangular indent of water that has become one of the most popular beginner kite destinations in the country. The bay is wide, shallow, and almost completely flat, which makes it look deceptively calm from the beach. That's not a downside; it's the whole point. Vityazevo is a small resort village close to Anapa, reachable by car or local transport. The beach is wide and sandy, with plenty of space to rig up away from swimmers during off-peak hours. Summer weekends draw crowds — this is a busy domestic resort area — so arriving early gives you cleaner launches and more room to work with on the water. The water is the standout feature. The bay is extremely shallow for a long stretch out from shore, which keeps it warm and almost wave-free even when the wind is blowing hard. For a beginner, that means body drags and water starts in conditions that are genuinely forgiving. For an experienced rider, it means flat-water free-riding and technical drill work without the punishment of chop. Wind here is thermal-driven. The SW direction dominates the usable window — the arc runs from 110° to 290° — and it tends to build through the morning into the afternoon as the land heats and draws air off the sea. Once you know the pattern, it's readable: steady thermal fills rather than gusty squalls. That said, thermals can shift or drop without much warning, so keep an eye on the sky and don't push further offshore than you're comfortable swimming back from. Season runs May through September. The Black Sea warms fast and holds its temperature well. Peak summer brings the most consistent wind days, though calm spells happen too — check conditions before assuming it's on. This bay is a recognised kite school hub, with instructors operating on the beach through the season. If you're learning, the combination of shallow warm water and steady thermal wind makes this one of the better setups in the region. For food right at the waterfront there's Cafe in Vityazevo by the sea; Gastrobarkhan is a further dining option roughly 13 kilometres away. Accommodation ranges from hotels in Anapa proper to camping and glamping setups across Krasnodar Krai. One practical note: Anapa is a domestic Russian resort town. Services, signage, and most communication run in Russian. Sort out a local SIM, carry cash, and have a translation app ready before you head to the spot.
