Southern Blouberg strip; large open beach with dunes; SE Cape Doctor 15–35 kt; can be gusty — careful launching; good for freestyle on stronger days; intermediate. [ctk-spotguide, freeridesurf]
Sunset Beach occupies the southern end of the Blouberg strip, a long run of open Atlantic coastline that stretches north of Cape Town. The beach here is wide and backed by dunes, and that combination of exposure and open beach is what makes it a proper kite destination. When Cape Town's prevailing winds come in, this spot gets a full dose. That wind is the Cape Doctor, Cape Town's famous south-easterly, and it's what drives this spot. On its typical days it comes in anywhere from 15 to 35 knots, with a usable kite window that runs from south through to north-northwest (180°–359°). When the Doctor is properly established, conditions here can be excellent. The dune terrain along the back of the beach disrupts the airflow close to shore though, and the gust-lull cycle that results is a defining characteristic of Sunset Beach. Build it into your planning. Launch discipline matters here. Before you pump your kite, check your quick-release and safety leash — they need to be working. Rig away from other beach users. Then read the gusts carefully; the turbulence off the dunes is most pronounced close to the shore and the pattern can be unpredictable. Find a stable window, commit, and launch with purpose. Don't rush it. On the stronger Cape Doctor days, a botched launch here has real consequences. Out on the water, the spot rewards that preparation. The long open stretch of beach gives you room to work with, and on the stronger days Sunset Beach is well-suited for freestyle — the Cape Doctor carries real power when it's toward the top of its range, and the open beach means space to throw moves without feeling cramped. This is solidly intermediate territory: you need to be comfortable riding in gusty conditions, confident with your water starts, and ready to handle a self-rescue if things go wrong. Beginners should find a calmer spot while they build their skills. Gear choice matters. The Cape Doctor's range runs wide — 15 to 35 knots — and that's a significant spread. Showing up with only one kite is a gamble. A quiver that lets you properly match the actual conditions on the day will get you more time in the water and less time watching from the beach. When you're done, there are a few restaurants nearby for a post-session refuel: Bak Mei, Hong Kong Kitchen, Yo Eastern Fusion, and Steers are all within reach.

You've already got wind data — the hard part is knowing what it means for you. Most kiters end up checking two, three, four apps and still asking: can I actually go? Breeza was built by a kiter who had the same problem. Feed it your gear, weight and level and it tells you if Sunset Beach is rideable right now. The answer, not the tabs.
