Kitesurfing Anmyeondo · Bangpo Beach

South Chungcheong, South Korea

Wind & Conditions

WSW-facing Yellow Sea beach on Anmyeon Island (South Chungcheong). NW winter monsoon (310°–350°, 18–30 kt) Nov–Mar is the main kite season — cross-to-side-onshore; summer W sea breeze (230–270°) also works. Large tidal flats at low tide expand the riding area; Windfinder covers this spot for water sports.

About Anmyeondo · Bangpo Beach

Bangpo Beach sits on the western flank of Anmyeon Island, reaching into South Korea's Yellow Sea from South Chungcheong province. The beach faces WSW, aligning it with two distinct wind windows: the NW winter monsoon and a lighter summer westerly sea breeze. The main season runs November through March. The NW monsoon arrives from 310–350°, delivering 18–30 knots and hitting Bangpo as cross-to-side-onshore. That direction is forgiving for most kite styles — you're not fighting the shore, you're working across it. The water temperature drops significantly in winter, so a proper wetsuit is essential, not optional. Summer shifts to a westerly sea breeze in the 230–270° range, still within the usable arc of 185–345°. It tends to be lighter, which suits foil and freestyle work once you've read the tidal patterns. Tides are central to how Bangpo works. The Yellow Sea has a pronounced tidal range, and at low tide the flats extending from the beach open up a large riding and launch area. That extra space matters — more room to rig, longer runs, a flatter surface to work with. At high tide, the beach narrows considerably and your options compress. Planning your session around low water is standard practice here. The launch is off the beach. The tidal flats mean conditions shift significantly between sessions, so scout the water before you go out and know which way the tide is running. At low water, other users of the flats — fishers, walkers — may be sharing the space, so keep situational awareness up throughout your session. Food is close. 미래식당 is under a kilometre from the water and the nearest full restaurant. 꽃게집시골밥상, 딴뚝식당, and 꽃지해물칼국수 are all within two kilometres, focused on Yellow Sea seafood — this stretch of coast is known for its shellfish and crab. 바보카페 BABO is a café around 5 km away for a post-session warm-up. For accommodation, 민속민박 is about 1.8 km away; Taean Baeksajang Beach Pension and Namunjae are around 13 km out, and Anmyeondo Pension Ing roughly 17 km. Anmyeon Island sits in South Chungcheong province on Korea's western coast. Getting there requires crossing from the mainland, so factor travel time into your planning — particularly if you're targeting specific tidal windows. For skill level, the winter wind range makes this intermediate-and-above territory. The 18–30 kt monsoon is not a learning environment. Summer sea breeze sessions can offer mellower conditions, but the Yellow Sea's tidal dynamic means you should always know what the water is doing before you launch.
