Cantal Roig Beach sits on the southern flank of Calpe, a coastal town roughly an hour north of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. The spot is immediately identifiable — it runs along the shoreline directly below the Peñón de Ifach, a 332-metre limestone monolith that rises straight from the Mediterranean and serves as both landmark and orientation point from the water. The beach faces south, which positions it well for the summer thermal cycle that defines riding here. From May through September, onshore S to SE thermals build through the morning and typically hit their stride in the afternoon, running in the 12–18 knot range. The usable kite window covers a wide arc — east through south to west (90°–270°) — so the beach doesn't need a narrow wind direction to work, but the classic summer day tracks south-to-southeast and delivers a clean onshore push into the bay. Conditions are well suited to beginners and intermediates. The onshore flow means a washed set brings you toward shore rather than offshore, and there is a designated kite zone that keeps riders separated from swimmers. That said, any beach with mixed water users requires attention during rigging and launch — read the setup on arrival, note where the kite zone markers fall, and give swimmers clear room on the way out. Getting here from Calpe town is straightforward: the beach is south of the town centre, accessible via the coastal road that wraps around the base of the Peñón. Parking can get congested on peak summer afternoons, so arriving before the thermal window fully opens is worth building into your day. On the water, the riding is open and relatively uncluttered. The flat-to-moderate chop that the onshore wind generates suits those working on technique or building confidence. The Peñón provides an unmissable reference point for keeping track of your position — more useful than it sounds on a bright afternoon with sun glare off the water. Facilities in the immediate area cover the essentials. For food and drinks post-session, options nearby include 00 Bistrot, A Mi Aire, Acuarios beach lounge bar, Beach Club by SolyMar Hoteles, and Capri. Ca Ginesa handles coffee and casual drinks. For a dedicated kite trip, June through August gives you the best shot at repeatable afternoon wind.
