Playa del Aeropuerto sits on the sheltered east coast of Lanzarote, running 1050 metres of flat, sandy shoreline directly alongside the runway at Arrecife Airport (ACE). That proximity makes it one of the easiest spots to reach on the island — if you're landing at ACE, the beach is practically in view on the descent path. The consistent northeast trade wind wraps around this side of the island side-onshore, giving you a clean, workable launch from the sand with water you can actually stand in if things go wrong. The bottom is sandy throughout and the water tends to run calm and moderate — a meaningful contrast to the exposed Atlantic swell you'll find if you head round to Famara. When the northwest coast turns lumpy and Famara's shorebreak is firing, Guacimeta tends to stay manageable. It works as a solid backup option and, for newer riders especially, sometimes the smarter primary choice. The usable wind arc runs from roughly north-northeast through to south-southeast, which means the classic Canary Islands NE trade sits comfortably in the working range. It pushes across the beach at an angle, so a bad moment doesn't dump you straight downwind into the shore — that side-onshore angle is what keeps this place honest for less experienced riders. Getting there is straightforward — access is good and parking is available near the airport perimeter. The beach is long enough that you're not fighting for launch real estate even on busier days. Keep your spatial awareness sharp during rig-up: the airport is active and low-flying aircraft on approach are part of the landscape here. It's not a dealbreaker, just part of the setting you want to be conscious of. The ride character is freeride-friendly — flat, forgiving water and a consistent breeze that doesn't spike unpredictably. That combination makes it a genuine learner spot and a solid warm-up venue if you're building confidence, or simply after mellow laps rather than a technical challenge. Intermediate riders looking for a no-drama session before an afternoon flight will find it fits the brief. For post-session recovery, the area covers most bases. Coral Beach Restaurante, Emmax Restaurante y más, and Cervecería Gambrinus handle sit-down food and drinks. For something quicker, Daniele pizza al taglio, Caffè di Fiore, Caffè Ritazza, and Coffee Republic are in the area for coffee and lighter bites. If you need a base close to the water, Club Guacimeta and Guacimeta Apartamentos are both nearby. Guacimeta doesn't have the dramatic volcanic backdrop of some of Lanzarote's other spots, and it's not the place to come hunting for waves or technical conditions. What it does consistently is give you a reliable, accessible window to get on the water — and on an island where conditions swing hard depending on which coast you're on, that kind of predictability has real value.
