Playa Granada sits on the Costa Granadina, the Mediterranean shoreline running through the province of Granada in southern Andalusia. The beach faces due south — shore normal 180° — and that orientation, combined with an open Mediterranean fetch, gives the water a relatively clean character when wind runs from the right direction. Getting here is straightforward: Motril is connected to Granada city by motorway, and the beach has its own access road with parking close to the sand. Rigging at your car and walking to the waterline is practical. The beach is wide and sandy, which means space to lay out your kite before launch — though on busy summer weekends foot traffic increases and you'll need to pick your moment. The wind story here is seasonal. From roughly April through August, a thermal SE or SW builds through the morning and peaks in the afternoon, typically running 15 to 22 knots on good days. The usable kite window — 110° to 250° — means SE through SW winds cross the beach at a useful angle: not dead onshore, not parallel. That gives you something to work upwind and keeps you from drifting straight down the beach from your launch. Beginners and intermediates will feel most at home in this summer thermal window. The water tends to stay relatively flat inshore when wind comes from the SE, with chop building as conditions strengthen. Come autumn and winter, the character changes. A Terral — a land wind blowing from NW to W — can arrive hard and unpredictably. That direction sits outside the usable kite window, which means a strong Terral is not your friend: it pushes you offshore and makes launching genuinely risky. Check forecasts carefully outside the summer thermal season and treat any NW or W wind with respect. Awa Watersports runs lessons directly on this beach, which makes it a reasonable pick for those working on water starts or getting their first kite flights sorted. Their presence also means you're unlikely to be entirely alone on the water, which counts for something. After your session, the beach strip takes care of you well. Restaurants including Bambú Beach, Chiringuito Alonso, and Happy Beach sit nearby. For a cold drink or coffee, Capibara Beach, Chiringuito Pesquera, Chiringuito Playacable, Chiringuito Poniente, El Ferry, Cafetería D&m, and Hoyo 19 Beach Club are all on the beach. It's a well-serviced shoreline — you won't be hunting for shade or a cold beer after a long session. Playa Granada works best for the summer kiter: accessible, well-equipped, and reliably thermal from late spring through August. Time it for a settled SE afternoon and you'll get consistent wind on a beach that asks little of you logistically. Outside that window, read the forecast twice before you rig.
