Beach on the left (north) bank of the Ebro delta at Riumar, Deltebre municipality. Shore normal NW (315°). N/NW Mestral wind onshore — blows a force stronger than at Trabucador and more steadily. Best October-March. Flat to choppy water with small waves; all levels. Beach bars with wooden walkways preserve the dunes. 2.6 km long beach.
Riumar sits on the north bank of the Ebro Delta, where flat delta land — rice paddies, reed beds, and seasonal lagoons — meets the Mediterranean. The Ebro Delta juts southward into the sea from Tarragona province, and Riumar occupies its upper-left corner, in the Deltebre municipality. Access runs through the flat agricultural roads of the delta interior, arriving at a largely seasonal resort village that empties out once the summer beach crowd leaves — which is exactly when the riding gets good. The beach runs 2.6 kilometres, backed by dunes that the local authorities actively protect. Wooden walkways channel foot traffic from the parking area and beach bars down to the sand — the vegetation here is taken seriously, and these are the designated access routes, not a suggestion. The shore faces roughly northwest, which sets the spot up cleanly for the dominant regional wind. That wind is the Mestral, a north-to-northwest wind that blows off the Iberian interior and arrives at Riumar clean and onshore. Riumar gets it stronger and more steadily than Trabucador, the delta's better-known spot on the southern spit — the flat, unobstructed delta geography gives the Mestral nothing to slow it down before it hits the beach. The usable kite window runs 245°–25°, covering SW through NW to NNE, with plenty of arc for the Mestral's typical direction. October through March is the prime window: this is a cold-season spot, and those months are when the Mestral shows up reliably. Water character is flat to choppy with small waves. Delta coastline doesn't receive open-ocean swell — what you get is manageable, wind-driven chop that suits all levels. Beginners will find the long open beach generous: room to rig, room to launch, room to sort out a tangled kite without pressure from other riders. Intermediates and above can work the consistent Mestral pressure and find small wave features when conditions dial in. Facilities are good for the size of the place. Xiringuito Les Dunes, Cantina, and Glops Bar are the beach bar options — somewhere to leave dry kit and get a coffee before heading out. For a proper meal after, there are multiple restaurants operating in the area: Barbacoa Rafael, Deltanatur, Gran Buffet La Gaya, La Granota, Lo mas de Núria (Casa Nuri), Plan B, and Vista Mar. No kite rental or school facility is listed at the spot — come self-sufficient. A few things worth knowing: the protected natural park status of the delta means the dune system is genuinely fragile — use the wooden walkways, not shortcuts over the sand. The flat delta landscape offers no wind shadow from any direction, which is what you want when the Mestral is pumping, but it also means full exposure when you're rigging. The Mestral can build through the day, so if you're on the cautious end of the skill range, an earlier start gives you more control over what you're launching into.
