Dutch Bay Dream Spot sits on a sandbar roughly 20 minutes by boat north of Kalpitiya lagoon, in Sri Lanka's North Western Province — and one of the few spots on the island that earns its billing across two separate monsoon seasons. There's no road access to the sandbar itself, so the first step is arranging a boat transfer from Kalpitiya. The local kite schools and guesthouses run transfers regularly, and linking up with one of them before you arrive makes sense anyway — you'll want a contact on the water. The crossing doubles as your pre-session read: as the lagoon opens out and the sandbar comes into view, you can already gauge whether the windward side has swell running and how the leeward flat looks. That dual character is what makes Dutch Bay genuinely unusual. On the leeward side you get flat, shallow water — forgiving, predictable, good for working on new tricks or just mellow carves without chop making life difficult. Flip around to the windward side and you're riding open ocean with a proper wave face. Same sandbar, two very different sessions depending on which way you point. Read the day and pick your playground. The wind arc runs from 180° to 359°, and the spot is active through both monsoon windows — SW in summer, NW in winter. The wind comes in side-onshore from the left, which gives you a comfortable angle and keeps the kite window honest without pushing you directly downwind into open water. That said, you're on an exposed sandbar with open sea on one side: track your drift, know your self-rescue, and don't launch solo. Kalpitiya has built a solid kite scene around this spot.
