Playa La Punta sits on the southern flank of Isla de Coche, a flat, low-lying island roughly 6 kilometres south of El Yaque on Margarita. There is no road connection — getting here means a short boat transfer from El Yaque, a crossing that naturally keeps crowd numbers down and leaves the water undisturbed. The bay stretches for about 2 kilometres of firm sand, and behind the shallows the water is extraordinarily flat: genuinely glassy, shallow enough to stand in across a wide area, and consistent in texture in a way that is rare anywhere in the Caribbean. The northeast to east-northeast trades that push through this channel from roughly February through June are the reason kiters make the trip. Wind here typically runs in the 25–35 knot range during peak season, and the character is notably clean — few gusts, few lulls, a reliably powered session that delivers from mid-morning onward. The usable kite arc runs from south-southwest through north-northeast, so the trades slot comfortably within it throughout the season window. Launching is a straightforward beach start. The water is shallow close to shore, so you can walk well out before getting airborne — useful when the breeze is already blowing hard. The flat water rewards foilers, freeride riders, and anyone working on unhooked tricks; the surface is predictable and the powered conditions let you concentrate on technique rather than fighting chop. Beginners will find the setup genuinely approachable on lighter days, though the boat-only access means there is no quick exit if things go wrong. Self-rescue capability matters here — if you get into difficulty further out, assistance is not immediately available from the beach. On the island, accommodation includes Bahía de Coche, Brisas de Coche, Cabañas Coven, and Hotel Paradise Coche. Food and drinks are covered by Bohío de Doña Carmen, El Rancho de Aura, and El Vigia. Kite instruction and equipment are available through Coche Kite and KiteSurf on the island, with El Yaque Kite by Leo Estredo operating from the Margarita side for riders sorting logistics before the crossing. Outside the February-to-June trade season the winds drop off significantly, and the consistency that defines this place largely disappears. Time it right and you will find conditions that are genuinely hard to argue with: flat water, steady trades, shallow enough for safe progression. The crossing adds an hour to your day. On a firing trade wind day, it is absolutely worth it.
