Mỹ Khê Beach stretches south from Da Nang city along a long, east-facing shoreline that's earned a reputation as one of Asia's finest. The beach is wide, the sand pale, and the slope into the water gentle — characteristics that have attracted both beach tourists and, increasingly, kiters who've figured out what the locals already knew: the northeast monsoon turns this place into a reliable sideshore run from November through March. The kitesurfing action happens in the southern section, past where the fishing boats sit. This matters. The northern stretch is busy with fishing activity and tourism — working around that is a headache you don't need at launch. Head south, find a clean stretch of beach, and you'll have a manageable setup area with a forgiving entry into the water. The NE monsoon delivers 18–28 knots of sideshore wind during the prime season. With the shore facing east and the monsoon pushing in from the northeast, you're looking at a genuine sideshore angle — wind running broadly parallel to the beach, giving you a clean upwind lane and a long run before you need to think about turning back. The water itself stays flat and forgiving; the gentle beach slope means the shorebreak rarely gets aggressive, and the absence of serious reef or rock makes this a comparatively low-consequence environment compared to many Asian spots. The usable wind arc here covers north through south, so the NE monsoon sits comfortably within the window. Outside the monsoon months — roughly May through September — conditions turn calm. That period is when Da Nang fills with Vietnamese families enjoying the beach weather; great for sightseeing, less useful for kiting. Approach from Da Nang's coastal road running along the beachfront. Parking is generally straightforward along the beach road. Walk south past the main tourist and fishing activity to scope your launch and check the water before you rig up. The beach strip has a solid range of spots to refuel. For a sit-down meal, Cay Me, Cua Do, Galina, and Gao are close by. For a drink or a coffee after your session, Bon Mua, Coffee Thanh Hà, Cửa Ngõ Café, Dan Lounge, dawn, and Garden are all in the vicinity. It's a well-provisioned stretch. Mỹ Khê suits kiters who are comfortable self-managing in a non-school, non-kite-centre environment. There are no dedicated kite facilities here. That said, the flat water and steady sideshore monsoon make it approachable for intermediates who know their gear, while experienced riders will appreciate the clean conditions and the room to run.
