Channel connecting Lagoa da Conceição to the sea in Florianópolis; NE-to-E winds at 12–22 kt produce cross-shore conditions on the narrow channel with ocean exposure; ideal for advanced riders and as a downwind destination from Lagoa.
Barra da Lagoa occupies one of the more distinctive kite spots on the Santa Catarina coast — a narrow channel where Lagoa da Conceição drains into the Atlantic Ocean, sitting within the small fishing village of the same name on the eastern edge of Florianópolis island. Access is straightforward once you're on the island. The channel runs through the heart of the village, flanked by bars and restaurants, before opening to the sea. Parking is available in the village, though it gets busy during peak season — earlier in the day gives you more options. The riding area is the channel itself — and that word, narrow, is the most important thing to understand before you rig. The waterway has ocean exposure at its mouth, which means NE-to-E winds arrive with genuine power and push cross-shore across the channel when the window is on. When conditions are running in the 12–22 kt range on those angles, the setup can be genuinely good. Closer to the mouth there's bump and chop from open-water exposure; further inside the channel stays more compressed and technical. That compression is the defining feature and the main catch. The channel's width limits your riding corridor, and there's limited room to let a bad situation resolve slowly. This is why the spot sits firmly in the advanced category. Riders confident in confined water, quick water relaunches and self-rescue will find it engaging and rewarding. Intermediates should consider a wider beach spot on the island first. One of the spot's more distinctive draws is as a downwind destination from Lagoa da Conceição. When the wind is right, running from the lagoon through the channel and out toward the Atlantic in a single session is an experience most kite beaches can't offer — and it's a big part of what draws experienced riders to this place. The village facilities are within easy walking distance of the water. Bar do Nico is the closest post-session option at under 500m. Doce Gula and Cafeteria Barra da Lagoa - Art Coffee & Drinks are nearby for coffee or a quick bite. For a fuller meal, Assador, Deck6 Restaurante, Deck 6, Barra Beach Bar, Beer Praia, Café da Barra and Dois Irmãos are all within roughly a kilometre — a solid spread for a compact fishing village. The channel connects two bodies of water, so current direction and strength can vary through the day. Check the flow, watch a few riders if you can, and be honest about your level before you unpack.

You've already got wind data — the hard part is knowing what it means for you. Most kiters end up checking two, three, four apps and still asking: can I actually go?
