About Jericoacoara

Jericoacoara — Jeri to everyone who's been — sits on the wild Atlantic coast of Ceará in northeast Brazil. The wind is the reason you're here, and it shows up reliably. The spot runs along 25 kilometres of continuous beach that sweeps east toward Guriu. The NE-to-E trades push through at 18–35 knots and come in side-onshore on your starboard tack — a comfortable, consistent angle that keeps the launch zone clean and gives you a long, unobstructed downwind run. When the trades are on, they tend to stay on. Launch off the main beach: it's wide, sandy, and generally open enough to set up without too much difficulty. The crowd concentrates at the most popular sections, so if you want a cleaner start, walking further down the beach usually solves it. The side-onshore angle means most problems stay in front of you, not on the beach behind you — useful on busier days. Water character splits into two very different rides. The open beach delivers choppy Atlantic conditions — good for freeriding and building experience in real ocean wind. Further toward Guriu, the flat-water lagoons open up: shallow, glassy, and wind-fed. These are the lagoons riders talk about when they explain why they keep coming back. Kite loops, board-offs, unhooking practice, and the kind of uninterrupted runs that make you lose track of time. Accessible enough for intermediates working on technique; open-ended enough that experienced riders won't get bored. The 18–35 knot range means you'll want a quiver that covers the spread. Lighter days are forgiving; when the trades push to the top end it gets demanding, and conditions call for solid water skills and real kite control. The side-onshore angle helps, but a 25 km beach means a long walk home if you overcommit downwind. After sessions, the village covers you. The flat-water lagoons give progressing riders room to develop, but the open beach in 25–35 knots is a different conversation. Come prepared, know your exit plan, and you'll understand why this place has the reputation it does.
