About Martinique Beach

Martinique Beach lines the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia and runs for five unbroken kilometres — the longest sandy beach in the province. That length is the spot's defining feature for kiters: you get serious room to rig, walk, and ride without the crowding that plagues tighter spots, and enough beach to reset if a session goes sideways. The beach sits within a Provincial Park and is accessible through Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore communities. The park setting means the beach is managed and open to visitors, though no kite-specific facilities are listed — arrive self-sufficient with everything you'll need for the session. The orientation is east-facing, and that's everything here. The Atlantic is right in front of you, and when the wind and swell both arrive from the E or NE — which they do regularly through spring and into autumn — the spot comes alive. The usable wind arc runs from north through east to south (0°–180°), keeping the kite window cross-to-onshore across the full range of those dominant directions. The typical working conditions are 15 to 25 knots out of the east or northeast, driven by Atlantic weather systems that push through this coast seasonally. When those systems roll in, the swell lines up with the wind and you get long, rolling Atlantic runners to work with. Freeriders who can read swell sets will enjoy the extra push and the option to run the beach downwind with real momentum behind them. This isn't a hollow beach-break wave spot, but the swell is genuine and adds character to every ride. Hazards are noted as few, and the open beach makes it a more forgiving environment than rocky or reef-heavy Atlantic spots. That said, the Atlantic is still the Atlantic — water temperatures outside of summer call for a proper wetsuit, and conditions can build faster than expected when a system is moving through. Check the forecast carefully and give yourself a margin at the stronger end. With five kilometres of sand you'll almost always find a clean launch window. Walk upwind from other beach users, choose your entry point based on the day's wind angle, and keep the run-back clear. The wide-open beach means there's no excuse to launch in a tight spot. Spring through autumn is the core season. The best sessions align with clean E/NE systems when wind and swell arrive together — conditions that reward riders who are comfortable handling Atlantic swell and know how to read a building sea state.
