Parlee Beach sits on Shediac Bay, tucked into the Northumberland Strait on New Brunswick's southeastern coast. Shediac bills itself the Lobster Capital of the World, but kitesurfers know it for something rarer on the Atlantic coast: the warmest saltwater in eastern Canada and a wide, shallow bay that stays relatively flat when the right wind comes in. Getting there is straightforward — Shediac sits a short drive east of Moncton, and Parlee Beach Provincial Park has parking in season. Expect company. This is one of the most popular beach destinations in Atlantic Canada, and in July and August the strand fills with swimmers and families. That shapes how you operate here. Designated kite zones exist for a reason — respect them, set up well clear of the swimming areas, and read the crowd before you launch. Launch character depends heavily on the tide. At low tide you get a generous strip of packed sand to lay out lines and sort your gear; at high tide the beach narrows significantly and you'll be stepping straight into the water to go. The bottom is clean, sandy, and gradual — forgiving for water starts and wipeouts alike. The shallows reward patience getting upwind rather than forcing it on a fading gust. The usable wind arc runs from roughly 340° through to 160°, so westerly through northerly into east-southeast directions all put wind across the bay. W, NW, and N typically deliver the most consistent pressure. NE and E carry a longer fetch off the strait and can build a short, manageable chop. Working winds sit in the 15–20 knot range; when it comes in at that strength on a northerly, the bay runs flat and fast. The shallowness suppresses swell that would otherwise build, which is a genuine plus for freestyle and for riders still working on their upwind game. Water temperature is Parlee's headline feature. By midsummer the Northumberland Strait reaches comfortable levels that are unusual for the Atlantic coast — a real draw for sessions that last. The season runs June through September; early and late months can be productive wind-wise but run cooler, while July and August are peak crowd and peak warmth simultaneously. After a session, the beach strip has you covered. Café Phil So Good handles a post-ride coffee or a light bite. Captain Dan's Bar & Grill is the move if you want something more substantial. The Sandbar is nearby for a sit-down meal. One honest note: Parlee is fundamentally a swimming beach. Peak summer weekends can be genuinely busy, and finding a clean launch window takes awareness and patience. Weekday mornings and the shoulder months — June and September — reward riders who work around the crowds.
