About Kučište (Pelješac)

Kučište is a small fishing village on the Pelješac peninsula, sitting immediately east of its better-known neighbour Viganj at the heart of the Maestral channel. The two spots share the same stretch of Dalmatian coast and the same wind source, but Kučište's slightly more south-facing orientation and sheltered position make it a meaningfully different experience — especially on days when Viganj is fully powered and the stronger riders are already reaching for undersized kites. Getting here means following the coastal road along the Pelješac peninsula. The village is genuinely small and quiet — there's a reason it draws the kind of kiter who values a low-key base over the buzz of a packed beach bar strip. Parking is limited, as it is in most of these old fishing settlements, so arriving before midday puts you ahead of the scramble. The launch is sandy with a stone garden behind it — classic for this stretch of the Dalmatian coast. The sandy strip gives you enough room to sort your lines and pump without stressing about rocks underfoot, though the stone garden makes tidy kite management and a helper on launch duty genuinely worthwhile. Water in the channel runs flat to choppy depending on the day, and the south-facing orientation delivers reliable side-to-onshore angles across the broad 90°–270° usable arc. Because Kučište sits slightly in the lee compared to Viganj, strong days on the channel often mean conditions here run a kite size larger than what's working at Viganj. For an intermediate rider, or anyone who wants a functional session rather than a survival exercise, that's a real advantage. On lighter Maestral days it can tip the other way and feel soft, so it's worth knowing the conditions at both spots before you commit your launch. FootLoose SurfClub, a kiteboarding and wingfoiling centre on-site, is your first call for rental, instruction, or a local read on the day's conditions. Accommodation runs from camping at Camp "Vala", Camping Dalmata, and Beach bar Nevio - Camping Nevio through to Bellevue Maradiso Casa by Aminess and Glamping tents - Beach Camp Adriatic. Beach Bar Adriatic, Beach Bar LIBE, Caffe Bar Divna, and Camp Vala Mokalo Beach Bar take care of food and drink without driving anywhere. The season runs June through September. Kučište stays quieter than Viganj through peak summer, so the water typically has more room in it. If you want a step down in intensity from the main channel — or a spot that genuinely works for a lighter or beginner-friendly day — Kučište earns its place on the shortlist in its own right.
