About Viganj (Peninsula Peljesac)

Viganj sits on the southwestern edge of the Pelješac Peninsula in southern Dalmatia — a long, narrow arm of Croatian coastline that reaches out toward the island of Korčula. The village itself is small and unhurried, the kind of place where kite bags outnumber suitcases in summer and the beach becomes the centre of everything from late morning until the wind drops. Getting there is straightforward. Viganj runs along the coastal road on the peninsula's southern shore, and kites in the air tend to signal your arrival before any signpost does. Parking is close to the beach, but it fills quickly during busy periods, so arriving early pays off. The beach is predominantly pebble and gravel — standard for this stretch of Dalmatia — so plan accordingly for your feet. The launch opens onto the channel between Pelješac and Korčula. Expect channelled chop rather than open-ocean swell when the wind is up. Depth comes up relatively quickly from the shore, which makes water starts manageable but means you're in real water almost immediately. The usable wind window runs 247° to 337° — broadly west to northwest. When the wind sits in that range, the angle is cross-shore to cross-onshore depending on where it falls within the arc. That's a workable setup for intermediates and above, giving room to work upwind and a reasonable margin before you run out of channel. The wind can be gusty, particularly in transitions, so a bar with good depower is worth having. The channel sees boat traffic, so stay oriented when riding toward open water. The pebble beach launch has a slightly higher technical margin than flat sand — it rewards deliberate kite control on the ground and a clean water entry. Booties are a practical call. Facilities are solid for a village of this size. K2 Beach Bar Viganj is right at the water for post-session drinks. For food, Konoba Karmela Viganj and Restaurant Kod Ivana offer sit-down Croatian meals, Ponta pizza bar & grill is a quicker option, and Bistro Montun, Bota, and Čiringito bar add further choice. Croccantino rounds things out if you want something lighter. Summer typically sees the most reliable westerly and northwesterly conditions along this coast. Shoulder season can offer good sessions with fewer people around. For beginners, the pebble launch, gusty transitions, and channel traffic collectively tilt the difficulty up; solid intermediates and above will find the spot genuinely rewarding when the wind comes in clean.
